I am here today speaking with Kathy Ansberry D'Aquila author of a delightful children’s picture book, Wonderful Willy.
Thank you Kathy for stopping by and speaking with me.
“Thank you for having me.”
What inspired you to become an author?
“I felt I have stories to tell that others would enjoy and be inspired by. But I also have to write, if I don’t get the story out— it’s like the alien spawn, it’ll chew its way out!”
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
“Along life’s paths we lose those we love, but we may also receive gifts from God (the universe) to help comfort us in our time of grief.”
Is the book, characters, or any scenes based on a true life experience, someone you know, or events in your own life?
“The entire book. The story is about love, loss and learning to move on in the wake of sadness and grief.”
What book are you reading now?
“If You Could See What I See: The Tenets of Novus Spiritus by Sylvia Browne. I believe she has a gift, she shares with those grappling with loss of a love a loved one.”
What is your current “work in progress” or upcoming projects?
“I am in the middle of two writing projects. One is a memoire and the other is another picture book.”
Can you share a little of your current work with us?
“The memoire, The Strangers and the picture book, Birds with Breakfast, which is based on a true story, about a little girl vacationing with her family on the island of St. Lucas, who befriends a small bird (a finch).”
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
“Yes, grammar and formatting.”
Who designed the cover of your latest book?
“Diane Rogazione, she is a very gifted writer and illustrator.”
Generally, how long does it take you to write a book?
“Wonderful Willy took three to four weeks to write. I am writing another book and it has taken years.”
What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?
“Seeing the delight on kid’s faces as they turn the pages.”
How do we find out about you and your books?
“You can find Wonderful Willy at locally in Cleveland, Ohio at Appletree Books, Mac’s Backs bookstore and on Amazon.”
